Christy Thrower is an experienced, versatile and charismatic teacher and performer.
In 1999 she graduated with a BMus from the University of Auckland, and in 2000 gained a PGradDipTchg(Music) from Auckland College of Education.
She has taught the flute and other instruments for thirteen years in a variety of settings, to students aged 2 - 82, and also sings professionally.
She ran a successful private music-teaching business in Auckland, NZ; and has also been employed to teach group and/or individual classes by:
Adam's Performing Arts Academy; Glenfield Music Education Centre; the Ministry of Education, and Kirk Bernand and Brown Music - where she was band director at several schools, as well as instrument tutor.
In 2001 she was employed at Hibiscus Coast Intermediate School as class music teacher and choir and band director.
In the same year, she was awarded the Dorothy Wiseman Cup for Most Promising Vocal Performance in the South Auckland Performing Arts Competitions, as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
In 2003 and 2004 she was co-producer of "Variety Show with a Difference", which included some of her students playing their own compositions, and was partially funded by Creative New Zealand.
Her students consistently do well in Associated Board and Trinity/Guildhall examinations.
The success of her teaching business in Auckland was largely due to word of mouth, as clients are impressed with her encouraging, yet firm and motivating manner, and her effective communication with children and adults alike.
Although she specialises in the flute - theory, recorder, singing, and beginner piano, clarinet and saxophone lessons are also available.
She is especially experienced in helping students with breathing, tone, embouchure and postural issues.
