Boogles Ltd have been offering a bookkeeping service since 2004. Following their move into the Her Business Centre in East Ham, in April 2008, they began to notice a change in the demand for their service. The Her Business Centre is a very special location, because it is the first all-female business centre in the UK. Members have access to hot desks, business coaches, start-up advice, business courses and boogles have benefited from some of the female foot fall coming through the centre.
Lisa Newton, Director of Boogles Ltd picked up on the trend. “There are more and more women starting a business and many of them have children. Sometimes the children will be with them when they come into the centre, and we thought about how nice it would be, if we could do something for them to keep them entertained, whilst we chatted with mum. The idea behind the boogles kids club is to try and help young people to understand numbers, becoming better at mental maths, and to understand the importance of saving.” Boogles, which looks like a friendly cartoon character is very appealing to children. And the theme of money and numbers fits in well with what Boogles are already known for. Children who join the club receive a membership goody bag packed with items to help them save and understand how money works. Grandparents can buy membership as a gift, or children can ask parents to join them up online. The rise of more women who are mum’s starting new businesses has led to the use of the term “mumpreneur.” It is a trend set to continue and the estimated number of female millionaires in the UK is set to overtake the number of male millionaires by 2020.
